Este trabajo presenta el balance sedimentario de un tramo de 106 km del río Ebro comprendido entre
Monzalbarba y Sástago durante la crecida Q7,5 años, de finales de febrero de 2003. El balance se ha construido a partir
de datos hidrológicos, muestras discretas de agua y sedimento en suspensión en cinco secciones de control, y documentación
sobre áreas inundadas en la llanura aluvial del río. Los resultados indican que el tramo de estudio se comportó
como un sumidero de sedimentos durante la crecida, ofreciendo un balance negativo de casi 90.000 t (i.e., 845
t/km), las cuales quedaron depositadas en el interior del sistema. Este valor representa el 19% de la carga sólida estimada
en la entrada del tramo de estudio. Asumiendo que la mayor parte del material quedó retenido en la llanura de
inundación, este valor representa una deposición neta media de 12 mm, tasa similar a las referenciadas para otros grandes
ríos durante episodios de similar magnitud.
This work reports on the sediment budget of a 106-km reach of the Ebro River, between Monzalbarba and
Sástago during the 7.5-year flood occurred in late February 2003. The budget has been constructed from hydrological
data, water and suspended sediment discrete samples obtained at five control sections, and official data on flooded
areas during the event. Results indicate that the study reach behaved as a sink of sediments, with a negative budget of
around 90,000 t (i.e., 845 t/km) that were deposited within the system during the flood. This value represents 19% of
the solid load estimated at the entrance of the fluvial system and indicates a mean sedimentation rate of 12 mm on the
river’s floodplain. Values in the same range have reported for other large rivers during flood events of similar magnitude.
