In light of decreasing fossil energy resources and rising energy prices, pressure on alternative energy has been growing. Biogas is considered one of the promising
alternatives.
However biogas technology is with just from 10 to 15 years of industrial development
still a very young technology. The combination of meaningful recovery of waste
streams and at the same time reducing greenhouse gas emissions has a significant
meaning which increases exponentially the international use of Biogas production.
Biogas production has usually been applied for waste treatment, mainly sewage
sludge, agricultural waste (manure) and industrial organic waste streams. Considerable development efforts are currently more efficient biogas plants with improved environmental effects.
Anaerobic digestion not only gives renewable energy, but also improves the fertilising
qualities of manure and thus is a way of manure treatment that offers the possibility for an environmentally friendly manure management.
The research project aimed at investigating biogas, methane yield and digestate
production of two codigestion plants in Germany.
Simulations were carried out by using Super Pro Designer software. In order to do an
accurate investigation real data from both plants were used as orientation values.
The goals of this study are to analyze the current operation of the plants so that we can improve its productivity. Further proposal are going to be made (changes in substrates composition and in technical parameters of the different devices of the plants) with the help of the software and sensitivity analysis of the results obtained. |
