Knorr-Bremse has developed a Value Stream Academy (VSAC), where are introduced and trained lean tools and methods in order to improve the process output, the quality of products and also the lean enterprise thinking. The VSAC is composed of different course levels, which have different goals, structures and contents and it also offers support to other locations in order to develop new lean projects.
Nowadays, the VSAC trains people and supports projects of several departments and locations and this aspect causes difficulties in measuring its monetary and qualitative impact. It is also a challenge to measure and track non countable variables as quality or knowledge, which are as significant as the quantitative in terms of continual improvement. What percentage of one project’s benefit is caused by the VSAC training? How can be the knowledge given measured or valued? How do the quality and flexibility increase due to the VSAC? If we want to answer these questions is necessary to define a standard method of measuring and controlling for each project developed by the VSAC.
Therefore the main objective of this Master Thesis consists in defining quantitative and qualitative variables in order to quantify the benefits (tangible and not tangible) of the Value Stream Academy and standardize a tracking system for the purpose of control and monitoring all the mentioned variables. |
