Abstract:

The PMSM (Partial Melting Semisolid Manufacturing) is a prototype of machine that
have been started in UPC (Polytechnic University of Catalonia) and entrusted to CDAL
(Light Alloys and Surface Treatments Design Center). The main idea is to cool down molten
alloys into a semi-liquid state before casting them in a mold. This process significantly
enhances the mechanical properties of the metal used.
The existing machine, made by students of UPC, is working but has some structural
problems. Therefore, the UPC asked a new team of students to rethink that machine,
keeping the process unchanged. The task is to redesign the structure of the machine in
order to eliminate all the existing problems and improve the machine.
The students had to deliver the plans and documentation that is needed to build the
improved machine and provide a guide for maintaining the machine to avoid vibrations
and other problems.
This document will show you the work done by the five students. |
