This report is about the design of the Texstyle Bracelet, which is the name chosen for the device. This is a bracelet that sends a warning when the wearer should get out of the sun to avoid burning. It is designed using smart textiles. Children and people with sensitive skin are the main target groups. The wavelength of radiation called UVA and UVB can damage the skin. The intensity of the sun differs per country, season and time of the day. Depending on the skin type, some people get sunburn faster than others. This also had to be taken into consideration during the design. A survey was distributed to get to know the preferences of future wearers. Two circuits were designed for the bracelet; an
analog circuit created with passive electronic elements and a digital circuit created using integrated circuits and microchips. The digital circuits contain a UV sensor, a mini-controller, a battery, buttons and a vibrating motor. The bracelet consists of three layers. The bottom layer is a polyester weave.
The middle layer is a non-woven polypropylene with the electronics attached. The top layer is polyester felt with a design created by transfer printing. A business plan was created. The idea will be sold to a company that sells solar cream |
