Este artículo analiza al personaje de ficción creado por Guy de Maupassant para su novela Bel Ami, George Duroy, más conocido por Bel Ami, con el fin de entender cuáles son las similitudes entre este periodista de ficción y los redactores franceses de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. En este texto también se recogen las diferentes reacciones que la novela causó entre los hombres de prensa contemporáneos de Maupassant y pone en cuestión la vocación periodística de Bel Ami.

This article analyzes the character created by Guy de Maupassant for his novel Bel Ami, George Duroy known as Bel Ami, in order to understand what the similarities are between this fiction journalist and French journalists of the second half of XIXth century. In this text they have also gathered the editors reactions to the novel and it puts in question the journalistic vocation of Bel Ami because, according to the author opinion, this character is not a journalist but a revenue.
