El objetivo del presente trabajo es estudiar las reformas militares que el cónsul Cayo Mario llevo a cabo en el ejército romano, entre 107 y 101 a.C. Mediante el reclutamiento de los estamentos más pobres de la sociedad, la modificación de la táctica, la logística y el armamento, Mario transformó un ejército cívico en uno profesional, más preparado para las necesidades imperiales. El trabajo pretende describir el contexto de las reformas y las estudia una a una para tratar de entender sus consecuencias inmediatas y a largo plazo mediante el uso de fuentes textuales primarias y secundarias.
The objective of the current work is to study the military reforms that the consul Gaius Marius carried out in the Roman army, between 107 and 104 BC. Through the recruitment of the poorer groups of society, the modification of tactics, logistics and armament, Marius transformed a civic army into a professional one, more prepared for the imperial needs. The paper aims to describe the context of the reforms and it studies them one by one to try to understand their immediate and long-term consequences by using primary and secondary textual sources. |
