The aim of this work is to get a better idea of the mechanical behaviour and fire properties of a composite. This composite consists out of a Portland cement matrix and an aramid nonwoven reinforcement. The aramid that is used is a waste material obtained from old t-shirts. This work contains all the steps of the process of creating the nonwoven material from the waste and fabricating the composite material. Also a description of the tests that were performed on the aramid nonwoven and the composite material. The results that are presented in this project are from tests performed on the aramid nonwoven and on the composite material. To characterise the nonwoven we performed tensile strength test, thickness, humidity and fire resistance. For the composite material tensile strength, flexural strength, fire resistance and thermal conductivity are tested. The mechanical properties of the composite are tested before and after an aging process to check the durability of the material. |
