This study is focused on the development of a lap simulator for the comparison of different aero-packages on sports cars. First of all, a brief historic survey shows some of the most important advances in the active aerodynamics field in motorsport. Then a benchmark on modern hyper cars shows the reader new trends in active aerodynamics by overviewing different solutions adopted by main sport cars manufacturers. The core of the study starts with a deep analysis of vehicle modelling, both dynamic and aerodynamically. The engineering process starts from modelling the purely dynamic behaviour of the car, with the generation of a self-developed wheel model and the load transfer characterization. Later, aerodynamic parameters of the car are obtained from further literature research and applied in the model. In this process, interaction between aero devices is important to be taken into account, since their performance highly differs from the lone analysis. Finally, results are summarized in lap time and vehicle performance analysis, both in curve and in straight. Last sections of the report are left for the conclusions, the budget and the environmental study. |
