Las “malas madres”: representación de la maternidad en la literatura colonial española escritas por mujeres en el siglo XX

Abstract

Este trabajo se propone analizar las figuras maternas marroquíes que aparecen en la literatura colonial española de ficción y escrita por mujeres en el siglo XX. Algunas de estas figuras, de hecho, corresponden a las representaciones habituales y tradicionales de lo materno que imperan en Occidente. Sin embargo, en el Marruecos imaginado por las autoras aparece, además, la subversión a esta figura como un modo más de atrapar a la otredad marroquí en una alteridad irreconciliable con los valores de la metrópolis. Aparecen así las “malas madres” de Marruecos como mecanismo elogiador de la española dejada atrás, en tierras peninsulares.

This paper aims to analyze the Moroccan maternal figures that appear in Spanish colonial fiction and written by women in the twentieth century. Some of these figures, in fact, correspond to the usual and traditional representations of the maternal that prevail in the Occident. However, in the Morocco imagined by the authoresses, the subversion of this figure also appears as another way of capturing the Moroccan otherness in an irreconcilable alterity with the values of the metropolis. Thus appear the “bad mothers” of Morocco as a praiseworthy mechanism of the woman Spanish left behind in the Iberian Peninsula.
