Pere el Cerimoniós i Balaguer

Abstract

En aquest estudi volem fer palès l’impuls que va rebre la ciutat de Balaguer, a nivell urbanístic, a través del comtes d’Urgell, primerament per part dels de la nissaga del llinatge Cabrera i tot seguit, de forma més destacada, pels comtes del Casal Catalano-aragonès. Fem un repàs de la seva acció de govern i de les fundacions que efectuaren, sobretot de convents, inclosa la nova seu parroquial de Santa Maria. No endebades Balaguer es convertí en capital comtal, promovent-hi dits comtes la seva residència al Palau Formós, on hi havia hagut el palau hudí, dins el recinte de la Suda, així com el seu panteó i altres obres d’embelliment de la ciutat, com la plaça del mercadal o l’acabament del recinte de muralles, degut al creixement de la ciutat. Pere el Cerimoniós que va néixer a Balaguer, fill dels comtes Alfons el Benigne i Teresa d’Entença, quan fou rei participà d’aquesta política de promoció de la ciutat de Balaguer com destaquem.

With this study we want to show the urban improvement that the city of Balaguer lived with the Counts of Urgel, first by the Cabrera House and after, more prominently, by the counts of the Catalan-Aragonese House. We analyse their govern and their foundings, mainly convents, inclusive the church of Santa Maria. Not in vain Balaguer turned into the capital of the county, and the counts placed there their residence, the Palau Formós, inside the Suda enclosure where the hudí palace stood. They also promoted their mausoleum and other beautification works in the city, like the Mercadal square or the finalization of the walls, due to the growth of the city. The king Peter IV of Aragon, who was born in Balaguer, son of Alfonso IV of Aragon and Teresa d’Entença, also took part in this policy of promoting the city, as we highlight
