Canal d'Urgell: caciquisme i regs. El conflicte del 1906

Abstract

El presente artículo tiene como objetivo desgranar el conflicto habido entre los regantes del Canal de Urgel y el Sindicato General de Regantes, emergido y agudizado por la rigurosa sequía del verano de 1906. Al conflicto permanente entre regantes y Sociedad Canal se sumó la lucha de los regantes contra el caciquismo sindical enquistado en las estructuras del Sindicato. Un conglomerado de intereses y grupos sociales formarán parte de la oposición al Sindicato. A lo largo del conflicto las relaciones dentro de este heterogéneo grupo marcarán el desenlace de las disputas.

This article is aimed at explaining the conflict between the irrigators of the Urgell Canal and the General Syndicate of Irrigators that emerged and became acute during the serious drought of the summer of 1906. The permanent conflict between the irrigators and the Canal Company was on top of the struggle by the irrigators against the despotism of the Syndicate inherent in the structures of the Syndicate itself. Amixture of interests and social groups made up part of the opposition to the Syndicate. Throughout the conflict, the relations within this heterogeneous group would mark the outcome of the dispute.
