The energy problem present in the Dominican Republic represents a major problem for the country every
year, because the deficit in energy supply considerably reduces the quality of life of the population in
general. This problem is not limited to the authorized distributors of energy or the use of non-renewable
resources as the main fuel (liquefied gas), but it goes beyond the unreliability of current contracts, high
cost of invoices, etc. The proposal presented by the economist Jochi Vicente for the year 2014 maintains
that the biggest problem is in the residential sector since it consumes 46% of the energy served and is only
paid by 36%. Becoming this problem also a social issue, the main objective of this study is to provide an
option that is not only sustainable over time through the proper use of resources, but also be able to meet
the conditions of comfort necessary for a home in a tropical climate. As secondary objectives, this proposal
seeks to improve the energy efficiency of standard housing and verify if it is possible to archive under this
climate typology a house ¨Pasiva¨, and later a comparative study able to measure the impact that the
construction of the same would have with regarding the traditional construction in aspect of materials
through the study of Life Cycle Analysis. The implementation of renewable energies to meet the energy
demand must represent a saving of approximately 80% compared to the traditional one and must represent
not only a monetary saving but a sustainable response able to advocate for the reduction of CO2 emissions
and collaborate with the reduction of the environmental impact. Through passive strategies, the
implementation of special windows and active systems to ensure proper ventilation and be able to achieve
interior comfort, and with it a positive response from users. It is necessary to highlight that achieving a
Passivhaus home represents an important and significant initial investment with respect to the traditional
ones, however it is possible to recover this investment in a relatively short period, responding to a longterm
profitable investment in addition to a sustainable proposal. By means of the study of the current
parameters and the existing constructive system, strategies that attempt to achieve certification in the
Caribbean and evaluate the economic changes that its implementation entails will be proposed. Due to the
strategies implemented, energy demand from conventional housing was reduced by 65%. The energy
demand in refrigeration, despite not passing the certification, improved by 70%. The terms of recovery of
the initial investment do not exceed in any of the cases raised ten years of investment with respect to the
cost of conventional housing and the total CO2 emissions from 16.3 kg (m / a) to 9 , 1 kg (m / a), with a
reduction of 44%. |
