The research conducted for this thesis studies the impact of BIM and VR in the AEC industry. In particular, at how can these technologies improve the design phase. From this starting point, the goal was to design the “perfect hospital patient room”, and tocreate an immersive virtual mockup in order to test and evaluate this environment. In order to have enough examples and best practices from existing innovative hospital designs, a first theoretical research was carried out. After determining the state of art of the industry, a BIM model of a Medical/Surgical unit was elaborated. This model was used to create an immersive Virtual Reality application which allows users to test and interact with the new model, so design errors can be detected and improvementscan be made.Immersive technologies are gaining terrain in the AEC industry, but they are still in the initial phase, so there is still a lack of interoperability between the processes and software. However, it is undeniable that BIM transformed the AEC industry and it is also evident that Immersive Technologies are changing the way we build |
