This thesis describes the building of a drone in order to record cinematographic footage. I wanted to make a drone and doing it as a thesis makes it even more interesting. The project starts doing research about drone hardware and building a simple first prototype which is just capable of flying, and then a couple of modifications are made to increase the features and uses of the drone. Then, the first part of the thesis will explain how to choose the parts and build the drone meanwhile the second part will explain the modifications made, the communication of the drone with the PC and possible applications that can be developed. Due to the lifting capability of the done more than one modification can be installed at the same time. The modularity of the project makes it never ending and every week new applications for drones are discovered and being so close to this Technology could mean a lot of opportunities. The mods developed on this document would be cinematography mod with image recognition and the Topography mod. In the cinematography mod we will see how to implement artificial vision technology in a computer using AI, powered by python and how to connect the drone to the computer so it can move using the images in real time. The topography mod uses the barometer and the sonar to measure height and compare the inputs so we can know the morphology of a certain area. The data ingest and plotting software both made in python. We will end up reviewing the limitations on the actual state of the art and the impact upcoming technologies can have in these projects, such as how can use 5G to improve the performance of the whole system. Also, we will look for the future of the project and evaluate if there is any market viability. |
