Imaginario y utopías

Abstract

En este trabajo se trata de descifrar la consustancial relación existente entre la noción de lo imaginario y la de utopía en el recorrido histórico que va desde el nacimiento de la época moderna hasta hoy en día. En primer lugar, se aborda, desde una perspectiva antropológica, la elucidación de la naturaleza y de la eficacia social de lo imaginario. A continuación, se analizan las diversas expresiones emblemáticas a través de las cuales la utopía llegó a cristalizar en la modernidad. Finalmente, en función de las mutaciones culturales de las últimas décadas, se aborda el significado de la utopía en las sociedades actuales, enfatizando la metamorfosis que ésta ha sufrido y las nuevas figuraciones que ha adoptado.

This article traces the mutually-sustaining relationship between the notions of 'the imaginary' on the one hand, and 'utopia' on the other, from the birth of the modern era to today. Firstly, we attempt to clarify, from an anthropological perspective, the nature and the social force of 'the imaginary'. Then we analyse the various ways in which the concept of utopia has taken shape in the modern era. Finally, in recognition of its cultural changes over recent decades, we analyse the current meaning of utopia, tracing the changes it has gone through, and the new shapes that it has taken.
