Un entalle con la representación de Júpiter entronizado hallado en el teatro romano de Carthago Nova

Abstract

Presentamos un entalle procedente de Carthago Nova. Fue hallado en el nivel de abandono del teatro romano, datado, a partir de la estratigrafía y el depósito cerámico, en el último cuarto del siglo II d. C. El entalle, utilizado en un anillo, muestra a Júpiter sedente en un diphros, con cetro y pátera. Este tipo fue utilizado frecuentemente como símbolo de la ideología imperial. El análisis iconográfico y las consideraciones estilísticas nos permiten datarlo a finales del siglo II d. C. o comienzos del siglo III d. C.

We study an engraved gem from Carthago Noua. The gem was found in the abandonment level of the Roman Theatre, dated by stratigraphy and a pottery deposit in the last quarter of the 2nd century A.D. The engraved gem, which was used in a finger ring, shows Jupiter seated in a diphros holding sceptre and patera; a type that was frequently used as a symbol of imperial ideology. The iconographic analysis and stylistic examinations allow us to date this intaglio at the end of the 2nd century A.D. or the beginning of the 3rd century A.D.

Presentem un entallament procedent de Carthago Nova. Va ser trobat en el nivell d'abandó del teatre romà, datat, a partir de l'estratigrafia i el dipòsit ceràmic, en l'últim quart del segle II dC. L'entallament, utilitzat en un anell, mostra Júpiter sedent en un diphros, amb ceptre i pàtera. Aquest tipus va ser utilitzat freqüentment com a símbol de la ideologia imperial. L'anàlisi iconogràfica i les consideracions estilístiques ens permeten datar-lo a finals del segle II dC o començament del segle III dC.
