Inmigración, diversidad religiosa y centros de culto en la ciudad de Barcelona

Abstract

El principal objetivo de este artículo es mostrar cómo el aumento sustancial de la llegada de personas inmigrantes a Cataluña y concretamente a la ciudad de Barcelona en los últimos 15 años ha comportado toda una serie de transformaciones en el mapa religioso, más allá del sobrevalorado crecimiento del Islam. Los cambios más signifi cativos han sido el aumento constante del número de centros de culto de minorías religiosas no católicas, la diversificación del mapa a partir de la aparición de tradiciones religiosas no existentes previamente, la incorporación de nuevas lenguas y tradiciones en los servicios religiosos, así como la provisión de nuevos servicios dirigidos a cubrir necesidades específicas de la población inmigrante y, por último, las transformaciones internas en los perfiles doctrinales de las comunidades, como es el caso de las iglesias evangélicas.

The aim of this paper is to explore the way in which the increase of immigrants arriving in Catalonia has changed the religious map of the region, with specifi c attention to the city of Barcelona. This paper will discuss the transformations that have taken place in the last 15 years and analyse not just the growth of Islam, but other faiths as well. One of the most relevant changes has been the steady increase in the number of places of worship for non-Catholic religious minorities. This increase is a result of the appearance of new religions, and the expansion of pre-existing religions. These changes include the incorporation of new languages and traditions, the provision of new services to meet the specifi c needs of immigrant populations and, fi nally, the internal transformation of the communities' doctrinal profiles.
