La traducción histórica de los vinos españoles en las obras de Shakespeare

Abstract

El presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar las menciones a los vinos españoles en las traducciones publicadas en España en los siglos XIX y XX de las obras de Shakespeare Enrique IV (Partes I y II). A pesar de los diversos estudios dedicados a este tema, desde el pionero de Duque (1981) hasta el más reciente de Leal Cruz (2015), no se ha realizado un estudio cronológico de las traducciones de estos vinos que permita establecer una visión histórica de los cambios en las técnicas traductoras ni en cómo éstas reflejan la comunicación intercultural entre las sociedades isabelina y española. Este estudio aspira, por lo tanto, a analizar el significado de los originales shakespearianos y de sus traducciones con el fin de detectar alteraciones significativas en las traducciones, así como su posible impacto en la compresión de los lectores. Asimismo, el análisis propondrá una serie de conclusiones acerca de los traductores seleccionados y de cómo es posible que unos tradujeran en contra de otros debido a sus criterios personales.

The aim of this article is to analyze the references to Spanish wines in translations of Shakespeare' s Henry IV (Parts I and II) published in Spain in the 19th and 20th centuries. Although various studies have dealt with this topic, from the pioneering work by Duque (1981) to the more recent one by Leal Cruz (2015), no chronological analysis has been carried out to provide a historical view of the translation of these references over the centuries. Similarly, no research has evaluated the translation techniques employed, or how they may have affected intercultural communication between the Elizabethan and Spanish societies. This article therefore aims to analyze the original Shakespearean texts and their translations in order to detect meaningful alterations in the translation of the wine references and to reflect on how these may have affected the readersâ understanding. Also, the analysis will propose a number of conclusions regarding the translators selected and the possibility that they may have translated â against each otherâ due to their personal criteria.
