La otredad de lo rural en Adelaida García Morales y Julio Llamazares : ¿Un regreso a los orígenes góticos de la literatura fantástica?

Abstract

La literatura fantástica nace en una sociedad racionalista, tras la división de lo real en los órdenes de lo posible y lo imposible. Al abrigo de estas ideas, se desarrolla la novela gótica, que propone la emergencia de lo sobrenatural en espacios romantizados y alejados del universo cotidiano del/de la lector/a. Sin embargo, hasta bien entrado el siglo XX, en lugares como las aisladas geografías de la ruralidad continuó interpretándose la realidad a partir de una convivencia no excesivamente problemática entre lo natural, lo sobrenatural y lo religioso, sin atender a los avances iluministas. Ello alcanza algunas manifestaciones literarias contemporáneas, como las de Adelaida García Morales y Julio Llamazares, cuya ambientación rural y cuyas intertextualidades con la novela gótica remiten a los orígenes del género fantástico y en las que, además, se propone una recuperación de la memoria rural del siglo XX español.

Fantastic literature was born in a rationalist society, after the division of the reality into the orders of the possible and the impossible. In this context the gothic novel is developed. This form of novel proposed the emergence of the supernatural in romanticized spaces far removed from the reader's referential world. However, there are places where reality continued to be interpreted on a non-problematic coexistence between the natural, the supernatural, and the religious, disregarding the advances of the Enlightenment. This is the case of the isolated geographies of the countryside. This coexistence reaches some contemporary literary manifestations: those of Adelaida García Morales and Julio Llamazares, for instance, whose rural settings and intertextualities with the Gothic novel link with the origins of the fantastic genre. This works also dialogue with an attempt to recover the rural memory of the 20th Century Spain
