Advanced low cost switch

Abstract

For this thesis we partnered with Simon Tech. Within their product line, there are devices capable of wireless communications, meant for home automation. Most of the devices within this product range have a capacitive user interface. All the products developed for electric installations have had to comply with several Electro Magnetic Compatibility regulations, that are especially taxing to the newest products featuring electronic components, and will soon become stricter, forcing us to design more robust systems than before. In this thesis our aim is to develop a prototype for the new home automation systems in Simon, centred around a working user interface that is capable to pass the EMC tests while, at the same time, keeping its cost to a minimum. We will centre the work around the ESP32, an inexpensive albeit powerful microcontroller.

Durant aquest treball ens hem associat amb l'empresa Simon Tech. Dins la seva línia de productes hi ha dispositius capaços de comunicacions sense cables, pensats per l'automatització de la llar. La majoria d'aquests dispositius tenen una interfície d'usuari basada en sensors capacitius. Tots els productes desenvolupats per instal·lacions elèctriques de la llar han hagut de complir amb diverses normatives de compatibilitat electromagnètica, normatives que en un futur proper canviaran i seran més estrictes, forçant-nos a dissenyar un sistema més robust. El nostre objectiu en aquest treball és desenvolupar un prototip per als nous sistemes d'automatització de la llar, centrant-nos en aconseguir una interfície capacitiva funcional que sigui capaç de passar els tests d'EMC i, alhora, mantenint els costs a un mínim.
