Ski design and prototype

Abstract

[ANGLÈS] The Project consists on the study of a small-scale fabrication of a pair of skis. To do so the design and prototype of a pair of skis is explained, with its ski press design. The project is introduced with a brief explanation of the historic context of the product, followed by a geometric design study and a material selection. The definitive design is detailed in base of one of the project objectives which is to reduce the material cost to half. The material selection is based on the actual use of technology in the ski industry and their environmental impact. Great part of the project is experimental, documenting the steps taken to construct the prototype. The steps and errors found along the way are documented. At the end of the project the errors and how they were fixed along the way or how they will be addressed on the next prototype are explained. The Project has a great artisan component, since the construction has been entirely done by hand, with the help of electric handheld tools. It’s a first approach to the hobby of garage ski construction, but with an industrial design engineering approach, with calculations and simulations of the press resistance.

[CASTELLÀ] El proyecto consiste en el estudio de la fabricación de esquís a pequeña escala. Para ello se llevará a cabo el diseño y prototipaje de un par de esquís con su respectiva prensa. El proyecto se introduce con una breve situación histórica del producto, seguido de un estudio del diseño geométrico y la selección de materiales. El diseño definitivo se detalla en base a un objetivo del proyecto que es reducir el coste de materiales del prototipo a la mitad. La selección de materiales se basa en el uso actual de tecnologías en la industria del esquí y en la repercusión medioambiental de estos. Gran parte del proyecto es experimental, documentando los pasos seguidos para la construcción del prototipo. Se documentan los pasos y los errores o fallos encontrados por el camino. Al final del proyecto se explican estos fallos y como se han arreglado sobre la marcha o como se pueden arreglar para el siguiente prototipo. El proyecto tiene un gran componente de artesanía, puesto que la construcción se ha llevado a cabo enteramente a mano, con la ayuda de herramientas eléctricas de mano. Es una primera aproximación al hobby de construcción de esquís en el garaje de casa, pero con un enfoque de ingeniería industrial, con cálculos y simulación para la comprobación de la resistencia de la prensa.
