Viability, design and implementation and business plans of a regional airport in Europe

Abstract

Although being the continent with the highest number of airports, Europe has some problems in terms of air transport. There are a few zones which have the need of being better communicated in terms of air transit and there are other zones which are too saturated, which cause the airport of that zone to be congested. This congestion slows down the evolution of air traffic in that particular zone, which causes great losses of revenue and a poor level of service. To solve these problems, this project aims to demonstrate that these issues can still be found in Europe, to find a location in need of a regional airport and to develop it in all the aspects that are involved. The project begins with the selection and justification of the location of the new airport, where it is demonstrated that Europe is still in need of airports. Then, traffic forecasts will be performed so as to calculate the demand of the airport. Once the results are obtained, the airside and the landside are described and defined, as well as the reserved airport zone. Next, an environmental and social impact study will be performed to see what how the new airport can affect its location. Last but not least, a business plan and an implementation plan will be made to analyse the economic viability of the project and how it will evolve over time. The development of this project is based on the sources of the main airport authorities: the International Civil Aviation Organisation and the International Air Transport Association. Therefore, their documentation has been used to ensure that all the regulations are fulfilled. It is hoped that this project helps the reader to have a more in-depth insight of the new regional airport that is proposed in Europe. It is also hope that it encourages to spread the word, which would help fund this project
