dc.description.abstract
The analysis of a reduced power system with the essential components that are also present in large networks is useful to understand the main interactions mechanisms in future power systems with high penetration of power electronics. This paper presents an impedance-based analysis of an essential power system that is formed by a Voltage Source Converter (VSC), which represents the power electronics devices, and a Synchronous Generator (SG), which represents the conventional generation. The General Nyquist Criterion and the passivity are considered to detect instabilities due to the interactions between the VSC and the SG. These two methods along with the frequency response of the impedances are also used to identify the oscillatory mode. In particular, the impact that the frequency and voltage control of the VSC have on the stability and interactions is studied in detail considering this impedance-based analysis.
