Abstract

L’atles d’espais escènics reusencs esdevé un recull inèdit que cataloga els espais escènics existents i desapareguts al llarg de la història a la ciutat de Reus. A partir d’aquesta primera definició, la recerca procura la lectura del mapa teatral a través l’estudi del nexe entre el fet teatral i la condició urbana del municipi, en base a les dimensions temporals i espacials que en determinen la configuració de la xarxa. Reus, en l’actualitat, gaudeix d’una tradició teatral arrelada als vestigis d’una activitat longeva. Aquesta, al llarg de la història, ha tingut un paper clau en el marc de desenvolupament del teatre català, atesa la concreció de l’espai que s’ha produït del fenomen cultural; el lloc del teatre. En aquest recopilatori, el què, el com, el quan, el perquè, i sobretot, l’on, són posats en qüestió, per tal de qualificar i quantificar les principals qüestions sobre la multiplicitat teatral. La recerca consisteix en un recorregut per la història del fet teatral, organitzat mitjançant una seqüència cartogràfica. L’interès recau en la lògica d’aparició i desaparició dels espais, i les conseqüents implicacions urbanes i socials, així com la detecció del rol actiu en el traçat urbà. En alguns casos, la ubicació de l’espai escènic dins la trama urbana és la resposta a lògiques de creixement motivades per arguments socials i estratègics, i en d’altres, veurem com el teatre ha fomentat el desenvolupament urbà. L’articulació del discurs es produeix a partir de períodes en els quals es produeix una conjunció entre activitat teatral, desenvolupament urbà, creixement demogràfic, i els respectius canvis sociopolítics associats. Així doncs, a la ciutat de Reus, tres actes, amb múltiples escenes internes, constaten el recorregut de l’espai escènic a la ciutat i la seva transformació social i urbana; el monopoli teatral, la configuració del mapa teatral, i l’eclosió teatral.

Building on this definition, the research examines the theatrical map through the relationship between theatrical practice and the municipality’s urban condition, framed by the temporal and spatial dimensions that shape the network’s configuration. Nowadays, Reus sustains a theatrical tradition rooted in the legacy of a long-standing activity. Historically, this tradition has played a key role in the development of Catalan theatre, shaped by the materialisation of the cultural phenomenon in space; the place of theatre. This compilation questions the what, how, when, why, and above all, the where of theatrical activity, with the aim of qualifying and quantifying the core issues of theatrical multiplicity. The study follows a chronological journey through the city’s theatrical history, structured as a cartographic sequence. It focuses on the logic behind the emergence and disappearance of venues, their urban and social implications, and their active role in shaping the city’s fabric. In some cases, venue locations reflect urban growth driven by social or strategic motives; in others, theatre itself has spurred urban development. The narrative is organised into periods where theatrical activity, urban growth, demographic change, and socio-political shifts intersect. In Reus, three acts with multiple internal scenes, trace the evolution of performance venues and their social and urban transformation: the theatrical monopoly, the configuration of the theatrical map, and the theatrical boom.
