Abstract

The study of turbulent flow crucial for current engineering aplications. The Navier-Stokes equations describe the fluid behaviour in a general way, however due to its nature, its solution is quite complex. Computer fluid dynamics make use of numerical methods to construct a model and approximate the solution of the equations in different flow configurations. Different turbulence modelling techniques, Reynoldsaveraged Navier-Stokes simulations (RANS), large-eddy simnulations (LES) and direct numerical simulations (DNS), and examples of flow geometries solved with each method are presented. This numerical approach is then applied investigation works on relevant flow geometries.
