The transmission of scientific knowledge and information about the new medical advances leads to one of the most important necessities of translation worldwide, because English is the lingua franca in this field. Since the biomedical translation becomes a social requirement and this kind of translation is poorly documented, it is necessary to study the translation of this specialized jargon. For this reason, the purpose of this research is to give an unpublished translation of two sections placed in a surgery manual called Essentials of Breast Surgery. It contains an analysis of the surgery jargon with a glossary and a selection of the most common translation problems of these texts. The analysis is made looking up medical glossaries and dictionaries, consulting parallel texts, and getting information in other biomedical translation researches, all of them liable. From this study focused on a professional view, we can confirm that the medical language and the surgery jargon can present, among others, terminological, cultural and register problems. Also this surgery jargon is very different from other medical jargons, because it is characterized by very specific terminology and very difficult syntax. To deal with this kind of text, the translator has to know the issue which about the text is and her or she has to be familiar with the speciality‟s jargon. |
