Catalan linguistics: New trends and findings
Comajoan, Llorenç; Lloret, Maria-Rosa
Catalan Review is an international journal devoted to issues related to all aspects of Catalan culture. However, upon browsing the journal, one realizes that the bulk of the published articles deals with literature; see, e.g., the 'Bibliographic and Thematic Index' of volumes I-X (1986-96) published in volume XI.I-2 (1997) by Mercè-Vidal Tibbits, the managing editor of the journal. For instance, in the period between 1986 and 1996, seven issues were monographs, but only one dealt with linguistics -volume IX.2 (1995), on 'Sociolinguistics,' edited by Milton Azevedo, Albert Bastardas, Emili Boix, and Paul O'Donnell. The situation has nat changed much since then: since 1996, six more is sues were devoted to specific themes, but none was committed to linguistics exclusively. However, in recent years, linguistics has shyly increased its presence in the journal and the scope of the aspects being treated in these studies has significantly broadened.
