Prácticas asistenciales en el mundo rural catalán. El papel de los masos durante la primera mitad del siglo XX

Abstract

The objective of this study is to verify the role of the Catalan masos in the assistance system during the first half of the twentieth century. For this, first, it will review the existing tracks in the oral record. The image obtained will be confronted, secondly, with a census of the Guardia Civil conducted in 1946 in the province of Girona. It is concluded that, in mid-twentieth century, the social assistance offered by masos was much smaller than it is derived from memorialísticos stories, that probably was in a declining phase and, moreover, that there were significant gender differences between beneficiaries

El objetivo del trabajo consiste en verificar hasta qué punto el papel asistencial de los masos catalanes en sus distintas dimensiones se mantenía aún durante la primera mitad del siglo xx. para ello se revisan, en primer lugar, los rastros existentes en el registro oral, y la imagen obtenida se confronta, en segundo lugar, con un censo de la Guardia Civil realizado en 1946 en la provincia de Girona. se concluye que la prestación asistencial ofrecida por los masos a mediados del siglo xx tenía un alcance mucho menor de lo que se deriva de los relatos memorialísticos, que probablemente se encontraba en una fase declinante y que, además, existían considerables diferencias de género entre los beneficiarios
