Los diputados catalanes y la Constitución de 1812

Abstract

Los diputados catalanes participaron activamente en las Cortes generales y extraordinarias de Cádiz y, por consiguiente, del proceso constituyente gaditano que derogó el régimen absolutista tardo-feudal y promulgó la conocida popularmente como La Pepa, la primera Constitución de la historia de España, de marcado carácter liberal, ya que estableció, por ejemplo, la soberanía nacional y la división de poderes. Los parlamentarios catalanes recurrieron a la historia de la antigua Corona de Aragón y a su particular y específico sistema político, institucional, legislativo, administrativo y judicial para legitimar un proyecto reformador y regenerador capaz de construir un Estado nacional fuerte y moderno que otorgara prosperidad y felicidad de una manera uniforme a todos los españoles.

The Catalan deputies participated actively in the general and special courts of Cadiz and therefore the Cadiz constitutional process which repealed the late-feudal absolutist regime enacted popularly known as La Pepa, the first constitution of the history of Spain, marking liberal character, as established, for example, national sovereignty and the division of powers. The Catalan members of parliament turned to the history of the former Crown of Aragon and his particular and specific political, institutional, legislative, administrative and judicial system to legitimize a reformer and regenerating project able to build a strong and modern nation-state to grant prosperity and happiness uniformly to all Spanish.
