El humor verbal en la obra de Carmen Martín Gaite : de la teoría literaria a la práctica ficcional

Abstract

Este artículo analiza la presencia del humor, la ironía y el sarcasmo en la obra de Carmen Martín Gaite, tanto en su teoría literaria como en su práctica ficcional. El humor forma parte de su concepción de la literatura, ya que posibilita su carácter transgresor. El humor -y la ironía- es uno de los rasgos distintivos de su estilo, que impregna la totalidad de su obra. En su narrativa recurre a ambos para contrarrestar la transcendencia de algunos momentos de la trama y en sus críticas literarias lo hace para alabar el arte de narrar; en estas emplea el sarcasmo para censurar justo lo contrario.

This article analyses the presence of humor, irony and sarcasm in the work of Carmen Martín Gaite, both in her literary theory and in her fiction practice. Humor is part of her conception of literature, because it enables his transgressive character. Humor -and irony- is one of the distinguishing features of her style, which pervades the entirety of her work. In her narrative she resorts to both to counteract the transcendence of some moments of the plot and in her literary critics she does it to praise the art of narrating; in these works she uses sarcasm to censure just the opposite.
