Abstract

Rapid methods and automation in microbiology comprise a dynamic area of research and study. The field encompasses a wide variety of subjects in theoretical and applied microbiology. This article traces the major developments of this field since the late 1960s, detailed with dates and locations of major international meetings on the subject as well as listing of major books, proceedings, and articles concerning this topic.
