Abstract

The objective is to build an office building, located in “Poble Nou”, between the streets Pujades and Provençals, with two underground car parks, commercial premises on the ground floor and offices from the 1st floor to the 11th. The surface of the building on the basement is 77,5 m x 33 m. The foundations are a watertight tank with 45 cm and 60 cm thickness sheet piles, with two anchorage lines -later on we will see how they need to be modified due to the pass of the Barcelona's underground just 2,2 m far from the sheet piles-, driving piles and a slab-on-grade foundation. The water table, regarding the geotechnical study, is located 6,5 m below the pavement level, so a pumping system with several wells capable of pump all the water out. As we will study later, in a first test the water table was found at 4,5 m. This construction took place between May 2007 and December 2008. Another differential aspect of this construction site is that the two sheet piles that act as dividing were already executed and consolidated. Thus, this building becomes a building between two dividing, and that means that the sheet piles need to be aligned with the existent ones and the joint needs to be treated in a special way. Finally, the aim of this project, is to evaluate the construccion under ground floors, since study phase until de construccion phase, with own particularies like a water table or the pass of the Barcelona’s underground.
