Dimensiones de integración social y urbana: propuesta para el análisis de los asentamientos autoproducidos en el Gran Valparaíso, Chile

Abstract

The research arises from the considerable increase in self-produced settlements in Chile between 2011 and 2021, and the scarce evidence on the results in social and urban integration of the response strategies implemented by public institutions and affected communities. This article presents a theoretical review of the concept of Social and Urban Integration and determines its main dimensions and categories. The research is of a documentary type and is developed based on two axes of theoretical analysis: origin, evolution and approaches to social and urban integration, and social theory on the creation and reproduction of social systems. The results allow us to affirm that the transition from a context of segregation and exclusion to that of social and urban integration only occurs to the extent that there is a balance between the dimensions of integration: sociocultural, socioeconomic, socio-spatial and socio-political. Each of them presents a set of categories that allow this concept to be operationalized when analyzing and evaluating the results of actions carried out by public institutions and the communities themselves in response to self-produced settlements.

La investigación surge ante el considerable aumento de los asentamientos autoproducidos en Chile entre los años 2011 a 2021, y la escasa evidencia sobre los resultados en integración social y urbana de las estrategias de respuesta implementadas por las instituciones públicas y las comunidades afectadas. Este artículo presenta una revisión teórica sobre el concepto de Integración Social y Urbana y determina sus principales dimensiones y categorías. La investigación es de tipo documental y se desarrolla en base a dos ejes de análisis teórico: origen, evolución y enfoques sobre integración social y urbana, y teoría social sobre creación y reproducción de sistemas sociales. Los resultados permiten afirmar que el paso de un contexto de segregación y exclusión al de integración social y urbana solo se da en la medida que exista un equilibrio entre las dimensiones de integración: sociocultural, socioeconómica, socioespacial y sociopolítica. Cada una de ellas presenta un conjunto de categorías que permiten hacer operativo de este concepto al momento de analizar y evaluar resultados de acciones llevadas a cabo por las instituciones públicas y las propias comunidades en respuesta a los asentamientos autoproducidos.
