Las torres genovesas de Córcega: estudio para la preservación del patrimonio

Abstract

Desde la antigüedad, las islas mediterráneas son territorios muy codiciados. Entre su ubicación estratégica y sus paisajes maravillosos, han sido la causa de numerosas guerras. Es en este contexto que la administración de Génova decidió construir un conjunto de torres de vigilancia a lo largo de la costa de l’île de Beauté.

Las torres han ido perdiendo su importancia con la anexión de Córcega a Francia, llevándonos a cuestionar su relevancia hoy en día. En la cuenca mediterránea existe un pasado de conflictos, y los vestigios de estos conflictos siguen apareciendo en los paisajes. Por esto es importante entender cuál fue el papel de estos elementos en la historia y que es de ellos en la actualidad.

En la presente investigación trataremos de comprender la importancia de estas torres a nivel patrimonial, tanto en conjunto como en sus singularidades, entender su historia así como su futuro, y saber lo que representan para Córcega pero también para toda la cuenca mediterránea. Utilizar conocimientos en arquitectura acumulados a lo largo de la carrera, con fin de determinar una serie de estrategias de intervención con el objetivo de devolver a estas torres su sitio en el patrimonio francés y mediterraneo.

Since ancient times, the Mediterranean islands have been highly coveted territories. Between their strategic location and their marvellous landscapes, they have been the cause of numerous wars. It is in this context that the administration of Geona decided to build a set of watchtowers along the coast of the Île de Beauté.

The towers have gradually lost their importance with the annexation of Corsica to France, leading us to question their relevance today. There is a past of conflict in the Mediterranean basin, and traces of this conflict are still visible in the landscape. It is therefore important to understand what the role of these elements was in history and what they are today.

In this research we will try to understand the importance of these towers in terms of heritage, both as a whole and in terms of their singularities, to understand their history as well as their future, and to know what they represent for Corsica but also for the whole Mediterranean sea. Use the knowledge accumulated during the course of the architecture studies to determine a series of intervention strategies with the aim of restoring these towers to their place in French and Mediterranean heritage.
