Terrains vagues: l'imaginari dels últims vestigis d'espais residuals a Barcelona, 2025

Abstract

Aquesta recerca analitza el concepte de terrain vague, popularitzat l’any 1995 per Ignasi de Solà-Morales, i la seva connexió amb els conceptes de tercer paisatge (Gilles Clément) i no-lloc (Marc Augé), així com amb diverses aportacions artístiques, especialment en l’àmbit fotogràfic del segle XX. La investigació pren com a cas d’estudi la ciutat de Barcelona, on els Jocs Olímpics de 1992 van propiciar una transformació urbana que va comportar l’eliminació de molts espais residuals. Mitjançant l’anàlisi de quatre casos i un treball de camp específic, el treball examina el valor dels paisatges urbans de transició i les col·lisions infraestructurals. La seva documentació esdevé rellevant a causa del caràcter efímer i de la progressiva desaparició d’aquests espais a la ciutat. Les conclusions apunten que els terrains vagues no només són testimonis dels buits i marges del desenvolupament urbà, sinó que també funcionen com a espais de memòria, llibertat i potencialitat, oferint una mirada crítica i alternativa davant la ciutat planificada i homogènia.

This research analyzes the concept of terrain vague, popularized in 1995 by Ignasi de Solà-Morales, and its connection with the concepts of third landscape (Gilles Clément) and non-place (Marc Augé), as well as with various artistic contributions, particularly in twentieth-century photography. The study focuses on the city of Barcelona, where the 1992 Olympic Games prompted an urban transformation that led to the elimination of many residual spaces. Through the analysis of four case studies and specific fieldwork, the research examines the value of urban transitional landscapes and infrastructural collisions. Their documentation is relevant due to the ephemeral nature and progressive disappearance of these spaces in the city. The findings suggest that terrains vagues are not only testimonies of the voids and margins of urban development but also function as spaces of memory, freedom, and potentiality, offering a critical and alternative perspective to the planned and homogeneous city.
