Analysis on the generation of caustic beams with straight and non-straight apertures: theoretical and numerical comparison

Resumen

Recent advancements in beam shaping give the ability to engineer the beam trajectory at will, opening up new possibilities in wireless communications. State-of-the-art techniques rely on flat apertures. However, this imposes geometric constraints that limit the achievable trajectories and restrict wavefront structuring to simple refraction and reflection angles, limiting their flexibility in beam design. To address these limitations, we propose using curved apertures as an alternative approach to enable more flexible and controllable beam paths. We present a novel formulation for wave trajectory engineering that accommodates arbitrarily shaped apertures. Through theoretical analysis and numerical simulations, we demonstrate that curved apertures facilitate power efficiency, mutual coupling resistance, and enhanced wave propagation control, reducing phase fluctuations and minimizing reliance on external phase-correcting mechanisms. Our results highlight the advantages of this approach in overcoming the constraints of flat apertures, paving the way for more adaptable and robust implementations in engineering the trajectories of beams.
