| dc.description | [spa] En este trabajo presentamos la aplicacion de una metodología específica que permite construir un modelo 3-D para analizar la morfología, calcular los parámetros geométricos y visualizar el relleno sedimentario potencial de un canal turbidítico situado en el margen continental del Ebro, en el Mediterráneo Occidental. El análisis cuantitativo y el modelo final se han realizado a partir de datos de batimetría de multihaz obtenidos principalmente durante las campañas BIG’95 y MATER 2. Los resultados obtenidos en este trabajo representan una contribución a la caracterización cuantitativa y a la modelización 3-D de canales turbidíticos. La metodología aplicada se ha demostrado particularmente adecuada para describir la morfología y los parámetros geométricos del canal turbidítico estudiado. También ha permitido realizar cálculos volumétricos precisos. La caracterización 3-D muestra que el canal presenta una forma cóncava y suave que sugiere un perfil en equilibrio con evidencias locales de erosión. Teniendo en cuenta la altura de los flancos (< 150 m), la existencia de diques bien desarrollados, la alta sinuosidad de algunos de sus tramos y las pendientes relativamente bajas, el canal puede clasificarse como de tipo deposicional. Las sinuosidades cercanas a 2 en algunos tramos y las pendientes suaves sugieren que las corrientes de turbidez de grano fino que circulan por el canal alcanzan el final del mismo. |
| dc.description | [eng] In this work we present the implementation of a specific methodology that allows to build a 3-D model in order to well know the morphology, geometric parameters and potential sediment fill of a turbidite channel located in the Ebro continental margin, in the Western Mediterranean. The quantitative analysis and the final model have been carried out from multibeam bathymetric obtained mainly during the BIG’95 and MATER 2 cruises. The final obtained results represent a contribution to the quantitative characterisation and 3-D modelling of turbidite channels. The applied methodology seems to be particularly adapted to describe the morphology and the geometrical parameters of the studied channel and it allows to realise precise volumetric calculations. The 3-D characterisation shows that the channel presents a concave and smooth form, suggesting an equilibrium profile with local evidences of erosion. Taking into account the height of the flanks (< 150 m), the existence of very developed levees, the high sinuosity in some sections and the relatively low degree slopes, the channel can be classify as depositional type. Sinuosities close to 2 in some points and gentle slopes suggest that the fine grain turbidity currents circulating within the channel reach the end of the system. |
