Explicaciones funcionales y explicaciones programáticas

Abstract

This paper has several aims. The first one is to raise an objection to Jackson and Pettit's analysis of the notion of programme explanation. The second, to offer an alternative analysis of this notion which is free from that objection. The third point is to distinguish between informative and noninformative functional explanations. And the last one is to show that informative functional explanations can be characterised as programme explanations, in the sense of the notion proposed in this work

Este artículo tiene diversos propósitos. Uno de ellos es presentar una objeción al análisis de la noción de explicación programática que ofrecen Jackson y Pettit. Otro es ofrecer un análisis alternativo de dicha noción que no está sujeto a la objeción anterior. Un tercer objetivo es distinguir entre explicaciones funcionales informativas y explicaciones funcionales no informativas. Finalmente, un cuarto objetivo es mostrar que las explicaciones funcionales informativas pueden ser caracterizadas como explicaciones programáticas, en el sentido de esta noción que se propone en este trabajo
