Crisi i canvis estructurals a la Hispània oriental entre l’alt imperi romà i l’antiguitat tardana

Abstract

En aquest treball valorem els canvis estructurals que es varen produir a la zona costanera oriental d’Hispania (corresponent actualment a Catalunya i el nord del País Valencià), centrant-nos especialment en la relació ciutat-camp. Plantegem l’abast real de la crisi del segle iii a la llum de l’arqueologia, així com l’evolució del poblament des del model romà altimperial fi ns l’antiguitat tardana, intentant valorar si ens trobem davant un despoblament o una concentració de la propietat, o ambdues coses. Finalment, analitzarem la transició entre el model romà de poblament i l’etapa visigoda amb la transició al poblament altmedieval.

In this article we assess the structural changes that took place in the coastal area of eastern Hispania (now corresponding to Catalonia and the northern region of Valencia), focusing particularly on the relationship between city and countryside. We also consider the extent of the Crisis of the Third Century in the light of archaeology, as well as the population’s evolution from a Roman model typical of the fi rst half of the Roman Empire to Late Antiquity, trying to assess whether this was a case of depopulation or concentration of ownership or both. Finally, we analyse the transition from the Roman model of settlement and the Visigoth period with the transition to early medieval settlement.
