Abstract

Shape is the main feature to make a building up. A building is what it is according to its shape. And it is precisely from its shape that a building might be identified. Studying the shape of buildings it is possible for us to understand the ideology and idiosyncrasy of their builders. In this paper, the shape of the northern Francolí basilica, in Tarragona, is analyzed. From the study of the Francolí basilica we may deduce a pronounced semantic use of shape and proportions. We are in front of an elaborate and pondered building, which shows its builders’ idiosyncrasy.
