Pequeñas esferas de barro y piedra en la Prehistoria reciente de la península ibérica

Abstract

En los contextos arqueológicos desde finales del III milenio y hasta aproximadamente mediados del II milenio BC en la península ibérica se han documentado pequeñas esferas de arcilla, así como de piedra, que apenas han recibido atención por parte de la investigación. En este artículo, recogemos los hallazgos de este tipo de materialidad de los que tenemos constancia, tratando también las esferas documentadas durante el I milenio BC, que han sido documentadas en un número mayor y abordadas algo más en la bibliografía científica. Asimismo, discutimos las interpretaciones que se han propuesto, desde diferentes contextos geográficos y temporales, acerca de estos materiales arqueológicos, su naturaleza, funciones e incluso su significado simbólico, con el objetivo de poder contribuir a un conocimiento más amplio de estas bolitas, que permita su mejor estudio futuro.

In the archaeological contexts from the end of the 3rd millennium BC to approximately the middle of the 2nd millennium BC in the Iberian Peninsula, small clay and stone balls have been registered, although having received almost no attention from the research community. In this paper, we aim to gather the findings of these materials to the best of our knowledge, addressing as well the small balls documented for the 1st millennium BC, which have been more abundantly found in archaeological excavations and approached a bit more in scientific works. We discuss as well the interpretations, proposed from different geographical and chronological contexts, of the nature of these balls, their uses and even their symbolic meaning, in order to try to contribute to a broader knowledge of these materials and benefit their future study.
