La biografía griega antigua de filósofos permite de forma privilegiada constatar cómo eran percibidos socialmente los filósofos antiguos, qué es lo que su comunidad valoraba en ellos y qué no les perdonaban sus contemporáneos, tal como se refleja, especialmente, en las retribuciones biográficas a la hora de otorgarles una determinada forma de morir. En este breve análisis, trataremos de reencontrar la mirada, entre la extrañeza y la fascinación, de la comunidad donde vivían los filósofos griegos antiguos, centrándonos en uno de los aspectos más llamativos de su carácter, la altivez y la arrogancia, para demostrar que
las fuentes de tal caracterización biográfica son, en última instancia, las obras cómicas. |

Abstract:

Ancient Greek biography of philosophers gives us a privileged insight into how they were socially perceived, what the community valued in them and what their contemporaries do not forgive them for, as is reflected especially in their biographies when they are granted a certain cause of death. In this brief analysis, I try to rediscover the expression, between surprise and fascination, of the community where the ancient Greek philosophers lived, focusing on one of the most striking aspects of their character, their haughtiness and arrogance, in order to argue that the sources of such biographical characterisation are ultimately the works of ancient Comedy. |
