The Vrbes project deals with the problems associated with the use of construction materials and building methods in the towns of the Lower Guadalquivir. This region is especially favourable for the advancement of these studies for different reasons: the existence of an important research tradition already concerned with the singularities found here, the evidence of relevant classical study cases like Italica, the sum of numerous other examples based on the intensive rescue archaeology, and an increasing awareness of the personality of the area with the river as a vital element. To all this, we can add the maturation of the working methodology in architecture archaeology, the more mindful incorporation of archaeometric studies, and the development of new analysis and graphic representation tools.
