La Fundació i2CAT és un centre de recerca i innovació que promou activitats de R+D+i en arquitectures avançades d’Internet, aplicacions i serveis. I2CAT destaca pel seu nou marc d’innovació oberta, que promou la col·laboració entre empreses privades, l’administració pública, l’entorn acadèmic i els usuaris finals.
Internet està produint una superabundància de dades, informació i xarxes. Es necessari avançar en la recerca i la innovació d’una Internet basada en sistemes intel·ligents i tecnologies “smart”. La Internet del coneixement i la creativitat es el nou repte que cal afrontar. La visió d’i2CAT per als propers 10 anys és la d’un món connectat i intel·ligent, un col·laboratori basat en una nova generació de sistemes i tecnologies “smart”, una plataforma de co-creació entre màquines, persones i l’entorn per a un futur sostenible.
Les activitats d’i2CAT abarquen els àmbits de la Recerca, jugant un paper clau en el programa marc Europeu per la Recerca i Innovació; els Projectes Estratègics, liderant iniciatives locals que enforteixen les polítiques digitals de l’administració pública; i la Transferència Tecnològica, promocionant col.laboracions amb empreses per desenvolupar solucions innovadores orientades a diversos mercats.
